Let's talk possibilities rather than probabilities. Ideas about reincarnation run throughout human history. Perhaps it's wishful thinking. At the same time, it's deeply rooted in some Eastern religions. When Kahlil Gibran sat down to write
The Prophet, reincarnation was in the forefront of his mind, because the prophet making the pronouncements on the quayside is about to depart from this life before being reborn into the next.
From my experience, there are odd times when I feel we know things that lie outside our experience in this life - or we have strange affinities with times and places.
There's also a link to astrology. There are those who belief that we precess through the star signs in turn, gaining "experience" as we go. Quite what happens at the end of the zodiac I don't know.
Also watch out for observers of very young babies, who will sometimes say something like "He/she has been here before", when reacting to the infant's actions.
I'm open-minded about the whole thing. And, yes, there is some wishful thinking involved.
